Brian Smerdon
As a licensed therapist and founder of Mindensity Mental Health, I am driven by a singular mission: to normalize and dignify mental health care for older adults. My journey began with an MS in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University and continues as a PhD candidate committed to advancing culturally attuned, evidence-based care. But my work extends beyond the therapy room—I specialize in crafting emotionally resonant outreach that meets seniors and their families where they are, whether through animated videos, flyers, or social media messaging. I believe that healing begins with trust, and trust begins with visibility. That’s why I’ve dedicated myself to designing outreach materials that speak the language of compassion and clarity. From adapting messaging for Facebook groups to refining animated intros that gently invite engagement, I approach every project with a perfectionist’s eye and a collaborator’s heart. My technical fluency in design and animation allows me to translate clinical insight into visuals that feel safe, familiar, and empowering. Mindensity is more than a practice—it’s a movement to make mental health care accessible, dignified, and emotionally intelligent for seniors in Daytona Beach and beyond. Whether I’m interpreting medical results for educational content or tailoring flyers for local visibility, I remain guided by one principle: every message must honor the emotional needs of older adults. I am proud to blend clinical depth with creative outreach, and I look forward to expanding this work in ways that continue to elevate the voices and well-being of our aging communities.
Areas of Expertise
Therapeutic Approach
**My Approach to Therapy** My therapeutic approach is rooted in dignity, clarity, and emotional safety. I specialize in working with older adults, honoring the unique life experiences, cultural backgrounds, and emotional landscapes they bring into the room. Therapy with me is not just about symptom relief—it’s about restoring a sense of agency, connection, and self-worth. I blend evidence-based modalities with a deeply client-centered lens, adapting each session to meet the emotional and cognitive needs of seniors. Whether we’re navigating grief, anxiety, medical transitions, or family dynamics, I prioritize gentle pacing, clear communication, and culturally attuned care. My background in creative outreach also informs my practice—I often use visual storytelling, metaphor, and psychoeducation to make therapeutic concepts more accessible and engaging. Above all, I believe healing begins with trust. I work collaboratively, listening deeply and refining our path together. My goal is to create a space where older adults feel seen, heard, and empowered—not just as clients, but as whole people with rich histories and futures worth investing in.
